Jaydee (Edgar Robin Albers, born 1958 in the Netherlands), is a Dutch house music producer and DJ, radio host and former baseball player. His original name was “Jei D” which Robin changed to “JayDee” upon teaming up with Joe D (DJ Jay Dee) an Italian DJ and Dance Music Producer from Rome Italy. At the time (early 90′s) this Italian DJ was also amongst the most followed radio personalities inItaly hosting a very successful dance music show in Europe on Italy’s #1 radio station Radio DeeJay. Word has it that DJ Jay Deecreated his pseudonym by inverting the name of the radio station he was employed by at the time and to reflect his own first and last name’s initials.
In the 1970s, after a degree in commercial studies, he played in the Dutch national baseball team and was triple Dutch wrestling champion. Then, he started career as DJ and was a radio host on many music and sport programs in his country for 11 years (one of them was elected “best Dutch dance show” three times). He organized the annual Dutch Mixing Championship five times.
In 1992, the two under the pseudonym “JayDee” released a successful hit, “Plastic Dreams”, what is considered to be one of the classics of the house music genre, which hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. The song, an instrumental, features a prominent Hammond organ style synthesizer melody played in a jazzy, improvised manner. “Plastic Dreams” continues to be remixed and re-released today, mostly on unsolicited White labels. The track has made the British charts on more than one occasion, first in September 1997 when it reached number 18 and again in January 2004 when it reached number 35. With this big hit, Robin decided to create his own label named First Impression and to change his artistic name to “Karnak” under which he released a few records to differentiate himself from his Italian counterpart. At times Robin still uses Jaydee, while Joe D. uses the pseudonym DJ Jay Dee.
