/RRT005/ DANIELA LA LUZ – SPACEWEATHER – Part I

This EP should have came out already in the end of 2009 on an US label, but unfortunately the label fell asleep. The EP’s includes 5 original tracks from DANIELA LA LUZ and 6 of the best remixes, as a result of a remix contest we called out at that time & this is the reason why the SPACEWEATHER EP is splitted in two parts, a SPACEWEATER EP Part I & SPACEWEATER EP Part II.

As you know our label is part of the motherlabel RIOT RIOT RECORDS, with this label name we have the accreditation and the heart to release music that dares to touch landscapes of Riot. Observing the rules of typical patterns of electronic music production, this EP is based on danceable and harmonic arrangements with a dash of elaboration and eclecticism of techno, techhouse & minimal.

1.| ANTE PORTAS is latin and means: IN FRONT OF THE GATES. Whatever you connect with it, this track gives you a foretaste of how DANIELA thought about extraterrestial life.

The characteristics of this dancefloor orientated, melodic, minimal touched track are clean forward pushing beats, analogue arpeggiated scapes, alternating with sweet climaxing melodys to loosen up it’s straightness given by the female vocals repeating ANTE PORTAS as an underlined message. In the last 2 minutes of the track, you can hear what’s the meaning of eclectic and elaborated techno.

2.| CHECK THE UNIVERSE is a voyage into all these unanswered questions about space centralized in this track, with the purpose to make you think fearless about the universe as far as we think to know about.

It means to sit at the open window, watching and listening the raindrops falling down, while trying to find an answer for the imagination about the infinity of whats around our planet, what’s not discovered yet and what probably won’t be discovered ever as long we live, to finally just accept this huge unanswered questions we have to deal with, cause nature stands above us.

3.| DOUBLEBEAT – Can you imagine yourself sitting in a skyrocket, slowly lifting up while your pulsebeat increases faster and faster? Then comes the moment when the rocket seperates from the space-capsule and you arrive in the earths orbit – it’s so thrilling what you feel, what you hear and see. One time the smell of space and back please, when you listen to this track, a thrilling voyage in 5 minutes and 26 seconds.

DOUBLEBEAT is a deep and straight kicking track with deep and steady chords, slowly climaxing to the point, to the maximum, for hightlighting your very first trip into the orbit.

4.| BUSY BEES is a dancefloor orientated techno track. A spacy arpeggiator, a climaxing arrangement that could let you shape the impression of an oldschool techno track and an interesting worked out break, till the track goes in it’s last third.

Maybe it’s a fleet of spaceships looking like a swarm of operating objects, not obvious if they are alive or if they’re just genius machines – and it doesn’t matter. You can just observe them, listen them while dancing.

5.| POCKET GALAXY starts with a happy melody, highlighted by a clean snair and kick rotation. If this would be your second voyage into space (perhaps this time further than the earth orbit) your trip gets climaxed slowly into an opend minded and spheric deep mood, releasing in you a deep and satisfied feeling with a pinch of melancholy, simply beyond words…

6.| ANTE PORTAS (SIMON HOLD REMIX) SIMON HOLD is a producer and DJ from Belgium and the half of |Pitch and Hold| who produced already some representable 12′.

His remix of ANTE PORTAS is a solid techno production, led by a delayed noise scape, that dominates and pushes the whole production to a clear danceability. Slowy in and out fading melody layers glamourize this track a deep and dynamic floating – just as another experience of a tour through a galaxy. Reliable is, that you can play this track any time of the night.

7.| ANTE PORTAS (BEATLJUZE REMIX) – To close this unique Part I of this EP you hear BEATLJUZE’s reconstruction of ANTE PORTAS, a track that could be the end credit of SPACEWEATHER movie, leading us out and back to reality in a sugary way, by adding tribal pieces and sweet bells for the sweetness of a unique trip we had into other dimensions. Usually he’s a hip hop producer and the first step into electronic music he did by joining our contest.

- We expect primarily entries for exciting visual exhibition projects or installations (gladly interactive), audio-video-performances (also with dance or theater if it’s not too long or too complex to organize) and workshop ideas (targeting an showable output instead of showcases or software trainings). Please attach links to examples and your contact information)

- Vjs are very welcome at our festival and there are slots/possibilities to represent yourself. But we don’t realy offer a budget or accommodation for that. Be our guest, join, use the festival for networking and inspiration.

thanks john…for my earliest musical memories at the jukeboxes in the northern irish seaside town i grew up in.
you captured my heart as a four year old,and by the time i was seven i was fully tuned in…
i can vividly see myself standing alone,frozen still in that amusement arcade on main street in portrush staring at the jukebox,
where ‘help’ would come on chiming several times throughout the day.
‘help’ was such a strange record for a nervous child to hear……under the happy uplifting sound i could vaguely tell that this life wasn’t gonna be a bed of roses…
the words in that little 45 single unlocked whatever depth there might be in me…..absolutely.
i didn’t like growing up….i remember constantly waking up to a sense of dread for school…the bullies…an unpredictable father…..the future…
and by the time i was a teenager you were still there talking to me through songs…
‘working class hero’ stopped me in my tracks…..it clarified my own experience so far….
i’d been sent to shrinks who were useless….when all i needed was my record collection…you john, and later on, david bowie….
you both pointed to the door that was right for me to go through,and i love you for it….i found a lifetime purpose through songwriting.
i sit here wondering what you’d think of my voice and stylings all over your song..
it would have been so easy to go with that gorgeous folkish approach of your own definitive version,
but if there was one thing you stood for,it was to be an individual and to think for yourself…
so i chose to be only myself as i inhabited your brilliant inflammable words and melody.
maybe you would have loved it…maybe you would have hated it…
i dunno…i’ve learned not to second guess anyone in this life.
i miss you not being around…your new records…the strong things you’d say…
you were taken far too soon..
but i keep up with what yoko is up to…
she’s an amazing lady..it’s a measure of your own weight that you gravitated towards a personality like her..i adore her.

Born to a pack of wild chimpanzees deep within the Congo, Furious George began his love of music as a young tree-swinger with a craving for the pound of a tribal beat. Upon discovering a set of beaten-up turntables that had fallen from a FedEx cargo plane over-head, he began to press his own records by melting palm leaves together and then etching in sound waves with sharpened bamboo shoots. He spent many humid jungle days hiding in the trees mastering the art of DJing, until one legendary evening when the Shaman of the tribe had fallen ill after eating many fermented mango’s. It was now up to George to make the tribal beat for all to dance that night. So with his beaten up turntables and palm leaf records, George climbed above the fire and spun his little monkey heart out. After amazing the crowd with his remix of “Jane Goodall’s Sexyback” he was captured by onlooking poachers and sent to America to play music for money.

He started work as a symbol-clapping busker on a leash in Central Park, until he clawed the face off of a hotdog vendor who short-changed him, earning him the name “Furious”. He was promptly shipped off to Canada. It was in Canada that he was given his first opportunity as a DJ, to which he thrilled crowds with his skills (but more so just because there was a monkey spinning records in front of them). Furious George has been dropping beats and making people go ape on dancefloors ever since.

I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and have always had a passion for music. From a young age I played the guitar and quickly learned how music could be a powerful force. As a teenager I spent a significant amount of time traveling to Europe and the Middle East, and lived for a short time in London and Geneva. Here I had my first real taste of House music and frequented many underground clubs, absorbing all I could. I was amazed at how music could create so much energy, tension and emotion. And how it could heal the soul. In 1994 I moved to Philadelphia and other than living in NYC for a few years it has been my home. For the past 20 years I have been influenced by many styles of music, from classic rock and reggae to disco and classic house. In 2006 I touched my first turntable/CDJ and never looked back. My passion and drive to create music and touch the human spirit seems endless and amazingly grows with each day. I currently use CDJs with Serato to create my sets, and recently have been experimenting with Ableton Live and MIDI controllers. I hope you enjoy my creations and comments/feedback are always appreciated.

Sonikross AKA Nigel Ross first appeared on the dance music scene as SonikKross. His debut single, a collaboration with Michel Spiegel, (Nuw Idol, WellWicked Records) “SonikKross – Walking With Dreamz”, got major aclaim with a No.1 from John 00 Fleming in DJ magazine and pride of place as the last tune on the “Christopher Lawrence, Around The World” compilation!
In 2004, he and DJ friend John Hutchison(Johnny Frenetic) formed the live house band Tokyoblu. Nigel took on what became a huge task of co-writing and producing the music to be played live by the band at the monthly Edinburgh club also called Tokyoblu. The bands live set up consisted of 2 vocalists, guitar, bass, keys, drums and decks with Nigel controlling things from a laptop and also adding extra guitar on his rockier numbers!!
They gained great success on the live scene being touted as the “Scottish Bassment Jaxx” and packed out the monthly clubnight playing nonstop sets constructed just like a DJ set. This then transfered itself to festivals with amazing sets to thousands at T in the park, V festval and Becks Fusions.
Tokyoblu’s debut EP “Groove Tonight” (containing no less then 4 mixes produced by Nigel Ross) charted at no3 in the DMC chart and no6 in the Upfront House chart. This added to some amazing bootlegs have ensured Nigel’s mixes are sitting in many a top DJ’s record box.
The next chapter has only just begun! With numerous remixes due for release and new original material under way there’s big things in store from Sonikross!

Pixies Call Off Israel Concert Following Raid on Food Flotilla| Boycott underway | via Spinner

The Pixies will not be performing a scheduled date in Tel Aviv this summer, AP reported Sunday. The band released an announcement through a publicist this weekend informing fans that “with great regret” it has decided not to make the trip to Israel. The concert was part of the band’s sizable summer tour, which will soon take them to Italy, New Zealand, and back to the U.S. for more than a dozen dates.

News of the cancellation follows last week’s raid by the Israeli military against an aid flotilla bound for Gaza, which killed nine pro-Palestine activists. However, the Pixies’ publicist in Israel, Shuki Weiss, did not name the raid — or anything else — as the reason for the cancellation.

Despite the political unrest in the region, performers including Elton John and Rod Stewart still plan to play Israel this summer, according to AP.

Two weeks ago Elvis Costello canceled his plans to perform in the country. The British singer-songwriter took to his website to explain his reasons, citing what he described as the “intimidation” and “humiliation” of Palestinians by Israel.

Gil Scott-Heron also recently canceled an appearance in Tel Aviv after protesters interrupted one of his shows at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Derek comes from a vast musical background having picked up numerous instruments and performed in a variety of bands. When it comes to the dance floor, he brings to life a steady vibe drenched in progressive, deep funk, and house music. Derek is a graduate of both the Recording Arts (AS) and Music Business (BS) degree programs at Full Sail University in Orlando, FL. Derek has been dj’ing for several years and has recently found his place in the production studio. His partnership with Dustin Skiles in 2008 earned him a co-residency at Orlando’s roof top club Sky60. In the spring of 2008, he played bass and electric guitar for the Dustin Skiles remix of “You Don’t Need It” by Micali, Wasley, & Ajami which is out now on the legendary Caffeine Recordings label. Recently Derek has teamed up with Grammy nominated producer and owner of the dance label Sunkissed Records, Bill Hamel. With Hamel, Derek has had his hand in many different projects including a remix of U2′s “Magnificent”, two tracks for Konami Games’ “Dance Dance Revolution”, and a remix for UK producer Stuart Price (aka Thin White Duke, aka Jaques Lu Cont). Also, Hamel and James joined forces in the studio in late 2009 to complete an original piece for Glenn Morrisson and the Global Underground dance/electronica compilation series. That is the tip of the ice burg and we can expect to keep hearing great things from this up and coming producer.

A Live performance of George Harrison’s “Beware of Darkness” from a 1971 benefit performance for UNICEF called “Concert for Bangladesh”. It was the first fund raising concert of this kind. The other singer is Leon Russell. The concert also included Eric, Ringo, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman, Jesse Ed Davis and others. Shosone Indians:

The historic Shoshone Indians, of the Uto-Aztecan linguistic stock, occupied territory in California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, although most of them seemed to be settled in the Snake river area in Idaho.Historical documents from the Lewis & Clark expedition often refer to the Shoshone as the “Snake Indians”; the actual name “Shoshone” means “The Valley People” . The name means “inland”, or “in the valley”.The Shoshone were few in numbers, their total population being somewhere in the area of 8000.
In 1875, President Ulysses S. Grant established a 100 square mile executive order reservation for the Lemhi Valley Shoshone, establishing the Lemhi Valley Indian Reservation for use by the Shoshone, Bannock, and Sheepeater tribes.

In 1905, nearly one hundred years after their first contact with the white man, the Lemhi Shoshone began their “Trail of Tears”, being forcibly removed from their ancestral homelands to the Fort Hall Indian Reservationto their newly “appointed” home.

An article by Professor Orlan J. Svingen of the History Department at Washington State University brings forth several injustices suffered by the Lemhi Shoshone.Prof. Svingen writes:
“But perhaps the ultimate act of dispossession was the Indian Claims Commission settlement involving the Lemhi people. During the 1960s, the ICC and the federal government determined that the Lemhi Claim to aboriginal lands would have to be submitted as part of the larger Shoshone-Bannock Claim. The Lemhis were prohibited from filing their own independent claim. When their claim, Docket #326-1, came before the ICC, the Lemhi claim to their land 200 miles north of Fort Hall totaled $4.5 million. Based on pressure from the federal government, the ICC, the Sho-Bans, and the Sho-Bans attorneys, the $4.5 million was assigned to the Shoshone Bannock general fund. Rather than dividing the 1971 Lemhi settlement among the approximately 500 Lemhis living at Fort Hall, it was, essentially, divided among as many as 3000 people living at Fort Hall–the overwhelming majority of whom had no direct or indirect tie to Lemhi lands.20 Opposition to the settlement was widespread among the Lemhi, but their dissatisfaction fell on the deaf ears of the Shoshone-Bannock majority and the Sho-Ban attorneys from the firm of Wilkinson, Cragun & Barker. Udale Simmer Tendoy, a Lemhi descendant, typified Lemhi opposition with his assessment of the ICC decision in 1971.”

Today, the Shoshone are still waiting to become a Federally recognized tribe, along with over 200 other Native American tribes such as the California Chumash and the North-Eastern Abenakis.There has been much controversy surrounding the U.S. Government’s plans to commemorate the bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark expedition.
Prof. Svingen comments on the proposed bicentennial celebration:
“…as the nation prepares to celebrate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, it is difficult to consider how the country can celebrate the Corps of Discovery while such a debt to Sacajawea and her people remains such a scandal.”

Panos Peros was born in Nicosia, Cyprus on November 27th, 1980. His passion for music began since early childhood, where he started collecting mixtapes and listening at home. By the age of 15, having formed a strong understanding and appreciation for music he was exposed to his first electronic sounds and he was immediately hooked. Fascinated by the fact that electronic music could combine human creativity and intelligence, musical instruments, hardware and software experimentation in creating music and manipulating sound made him want to be involved in electronic music.

After graduating from high school at the age of 18, he joined the army for 2 years and at the age of 20 he went for studies in the U.S. After completing his studies and returning back to Cyprus at the age of 24, being an avid fan of music and technology, he started creating his own electronic music production and recording studio at home.

In 2005, he came up with Lost In Sound as his music pseudonym which represents his whole concept and vision when it comes to music. In 2007, he joined Facebook where he created a facebook page called Lost In Sound which features his exclusive sets, artwork and design made by Stalo Xinari, SXtheMadArtist aka theArtConcept. In 2009, he joined SoundCloud as Lost In Sound in order to share his music to a broader audience. In addition, he started releasing his exclusive sets for internet radio stations. So far, he had the chance to be featured as a guest artist on radio stations like enSonic.FM, Below Zero, Fluid Radio, Proclubbin FM, MCAST, Frisky Radio and Proton Radio.

Music has always been an essential part of his life and throughout the years, continuously searching for new sounds he has in his possession a vast music collection from a very diverse range of artists. He’s an experienced listener without music boundaries always exploring and experimenting to find new directions and ways to express his feelings, emotions, thoughts and ideas. The Amplifetes – Whizz Kid. Directed and animated by Anders Hellman

The Amplifetes are a brand new 4-piece band from Sweden. Being accomplished songwriters and producers

on their own, the members have worked with names such as Kelis, Madonna, Grandmaster Flash and

Peter Bjorn and John. While having occasionaly crossed paths during the course of their careers, they have

existed as a unit for about a year. The band think of themselves as a dreamteam collaboration of their

influences – listing 60s Psychadelia, The Electric Light Orchestra, The Ramones, Elvis Costello, David Bowie

and Chicago Trax Records House releases.

The highly addictive result can be heard in The Amplifetes debut single “It´s my life”, a spitting image of urban

life and a happy three-part marriage between garage pop, electro and punk. It was featured recently in a

promo campaign for Italian fashion house Roberto Cavalli, starring a lightly dressed Milla Jovovich, creating

quite a stir over europe.

The framework for the production of material for The Amplifetes debut work was very much dictated, while not

restricted, by geography and time. Due to the bandmembers being set up in two different cities, most of the

writing and recording interaction took place late nights over the internet. In fact, it was not until the final mixing

sessions that the full band actually met! This created a very special atmosphere for the creative process,

described by lead singer Peter as “a feeling of weightlessness, like being trapped inside a bubble of soft stone.” The faceless communication and stillness of night formed the backdrop for the emerging of The Amplifetes debut album, which has just been completed and is scheduled to hit the stores in early april. They have also been developing their live act and are booking now to tour the world in 2010.
